Travel with artists Todd Poteet and Alexandra Baer to Mexico where we will study the art, motiffs and culture of Mexico. There are only 12 spaces available. This is an art and culture focused trip unlike any offered by the big tour groups. Each day there will be artistic challenges and assignments while we tour ancient Aztec ruins, visit historic and culturally significant areas, paint in plein air, and truly "see" Mexico. In addition, our home base will be Alexandra's historic 16th century Hacienda Santa Maria Xalostoc just outside of Apizaco, Mexico; about two hours north-east of Mexico City and about 9,000ft above sea level. The hacienda operates as a hotel and event center year around and has been restored by hand. You are transported back in time while staying there.
Each day there will be an art class and each night a time of sharing and discussing our work, observations, and the culture.
We will see the Temple de la Sol, Temple Major, Frida Kahlo's home, Puebla, Festival of the Fireflies, La Gruta, and much more while learning from local artists on how to source natural pigments from the earth around us, make our own paint from those pigments, and all about importance of surrealism in Mexican art. This is not your typical school abroad trip.
All ages are welcome. Limited space.
